People in the region will need critical food and other supplies over the days and weeks ahead. To aid the immediate response, our partner The Global FoodBanking Network has created an Emergency Response Fund to support their member Food Bank in Türkiye, the Tider Basic Needs Association (Tider).
Tider has a presence on the ground and responded within hours to help with emergency assessments and response efforts. Because Food Banks have a local presence, they know how to quickly provide food and other necessary relief supplies.
Tider has a network of over 60 locally led Food Banks in Türkiye. They are also a member of Afet Platformu, an association of 26 NGOs that carefully coordinate disaster response across the country — the group formed in January 2020 after the 6.7 magnitude Elazig earthquake.
In times of crisis, Food Banks step up to meet the increased need for food relief. Food Banks, like Tider, are rooted in the communities they serve and mobilize other locally led organisations to act quickly and effectively. When emergencies happen, Food Banks know how to source and distribute food and basic needs when supply chains are broken.
